What is a domain and what does it do?

Domain is the address that people type in the browser to reach a site. Just like a fingerprint, each domain name is unique to a particular website and cannot be shared or repeated with other web pages. The term "domain" is often used in the context of internet and computer technologies. A domain is a unique name that identifies the name of a website or a computer on a network. Domains are used to make it easier for people to access resources on the internet.

A domain usually consists of alphanumeric characters (letters, numbers, and some special characters). For example, "example.com" or "google.com". Domains correspond to internet protocol (IP) addresses. IP addresses indicate the unique identity of a device or a service on the internet. However, domain names are built on top of IP addresses because they are easier for people to remember and use. While domains are used to access websites, they can also be used for other internet services such as sending and receiving e-mails. For example, an e-mail address can be in the format "kullanıcı@example.com", where "example.com" represents the domain name. Domains are registered through a domain registrar and rented, usually by paying an annual subscription fee. In this way, a particular domain name becomes available to a person or organization.
